Life is a journey...

“Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived. After all [...] , we're only mortal.”

― Jean-Luc Picard

Bio

Already in school, there was only one subject really fascinating Mr. Siegert - biology!
As a teenager he got hooked by wildlife. To learn more about wildlife and its habitats he started with a bachelor's in forestry. This helped him to learn how to manage and positively influence the habitats of animals, even if those areas are economically used. It followed a master's in forest sciences and forest ecology, to round his knowledge and research skills on and about the complex ecological systems of wildlife's habitats what we call simply "nature".
In his undergraduate years he got fascinated by zoonotic diseases and its mechanisms. During his master's Mr. Siegert got his first contacts with the field of parasitology combined with the one health aspect. During the beginning of his doctoral studies, he worked at the Institute of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Goettingen in the work group around apl. Prof. Dr. med. vet. Stephan Neumann, Dipl ECVCP, chief physician and executive head of the Small Animal Clinic of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine. There Mr. Siegert developed and deepened his knowledge and research skills in parasitology and also touched the field of immunology (biomarkers).
After more than 2.5 years of active work and collaboration in these two fields — first as a research assistant, later as a research associate (lab manager, team leader, project manager, lecturer and supervisor for bachelor students, et cetera) — a completely other dicipline of science was introduced to Mr. Siegert. The discipline of molecular biology especially molecular genetics and genomics. The multidisciplinarity of this perhaps currently most fundamental science of all life sciences has enthralled him immediatelly. A few months after that first deeper contact with genetics Mr. Siegert finally found his "scientific home" in that field of science. Without further ado he changed his doctoral thesis topic from parasitology to genetics.
As a logical consequence, he also had to change his doctoral supervisor in order to get the necessary support regarding this new subject. He had the great opportunity to win Prof. Prof. h.c. (JXAU) Prof. h.c. (MBA) Dr. med. vet. Dr. med. vet. habil. Bertram Brenig (Wikipedia), director of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine, professor and head of the division of molecular biology of farm animals and molecular diagnostics, head of the ZMD and former president of the International Society of Animal Genetics. In November 2023 Prof. Brenig became Mr. Siegert's doctoral supervisor. Simultaneously, Mr. Siegert began his work in the work group of Prof. Brenig. Still Mr. Siegert kept the collaboration with Prof. Neumann and worked in the fields of parasitology and immunology until July 2024. Since that time, Mr. Siegert decided to finally leave Prof. Neumann's work group and become a full-time member of the work group around Prof. Brenig. This decision enabled Mr. Siegert not only to work fully as a geneticist, but also closing the remaining knowledge gaps that resulted from his previous career steps afar of genetics. Here his friend and colleague Joel Fonseca-Nogueira (Curriculo Lattes) also played a major role - especially in introducing Mr. Siegert to the world of bioinformatics.

So, currently Mr. Siegert is an active member of the working group of Prof. Brenig  as a scientist in genetics in the following subfields of molecular biology: molecular genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics.

The journey proceeds...

In his seldom spare time Mr. Siegert likes to cook, play violin, go hiking, learning the art of falconry and spend time with his family.
