FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions

A little Theses-FAQ

Below, Mr. Siegert answers frequently asked questions regarding the issue of writing a thesis.

01. When to start?

Writing a bachelor or master thesis is quite a big project. You definitely need a "warm-up time" before really starting to write. If you want a smooth start in such a project I recommend to you to deal with this issue already some months (at least 3 - 6 months) before you have to. After reading this you think that you are too late? No worries, there are often many solutions possible. But of course it could become more stressful and/or hectic. So, if you have enough time, start as soon as possibile... if not, let's come together as soon as possible to figure out what's feasible in your particular situation. 02. How many theses do Mr. Siegert  supervise simultaneously?

That differs. It depends on how many (and what) other obligations I have to fulfill at the same time and how much they demand of me. My maximum number of theses, which I am willing to supervise, is therefore considered every semester anew. Therefore, my personal tip is to just give me a call or write me an email asking if I am currently accepting new candidates. For further information click here.

03. You do not know what to write about, but know that you want to write under Mr. Siegert's supervision, respectivly in his field(s) / or related field(s) of science / research ?

No problem, in general I offer a list of (adaptable) suggestions for interesting bachelor theses and master theses. Make an appointment, and we will get together for finding the right topic for you and your special sub-field of interest. For further information about choosing a already offered topic click here.

04. You have one or more suggestions about/for a topic you want to write your thesis in ?

Great, I love it, when students make suggestions by themselves. Because writing in the topic of your "dreams" is extremly motivating. Make an appointment, and we will get together to check your ideas, and finally put them to the "acid test". For further information about suggesting you own topic click here.

05. You hestitate in starting your thesis ? You are unsure or "shilly-shally" or even fearful ?

Do not wait! As sooner you start, as better. That is what supervisors are for. We want to help you not only at your first or further steps, but already in the phase before taking your first steps. Ultimately, some reports of writing a thesis may have been greatly exaggerated. So, just grab your phone and contact me.

06. You do not know if you are allowed to choose Mr. Siegert as your examiner and/or supervisor ?

Currently, I am an officially recognized/registered examiner for the following institutions:

07. You cannot choose Mr. Siegert as your (primary) examiner/supervisor ?

In general such a problem is quite easy to solve. For example, if you secondary examiner is from your faculty, that is often all it takes. Let's make an appointment, get together and talk about the issue. Very often it needs just a phone call to change the odds. Or often it is only a matter of very little paperwork. That are efforts, I like to take for a student who really wants to write his/her thesis under my supervision.

08. You want to choose me as you secondary examiner (supervisor) ?

Do not hesitate to contact me. I may be open to serve you in that position.

09. You want to choose me as you third (background-) supervisor ?

Well, thats an uncommon question, but do not hesitate to contact me. Depending on the topic of your thesis I might be open to serve you in that position, too.

10. Any further questions ?
